Mention code 7186575 | | CIE Tours | | | | Day | Destination | Description | | Day 1 | Depart U.S. for Rome | Depart U.S. for Rome : Welcome aboard your overnight flight to Rome. Relax with inflight meals and entertainment as you cross the Atlantic. | | Day 2 | Rome | Welcome to Rome! : Land at Leonardo da Vinci, Rome's main airport where your driver will wait for you at the airport for a private transfer to your hotel. Check into your hotel and settle in for a four night stay. Later in the day, meet with your Tour Representative and you will have an opportunity to ask questions about your stay and attractions to visit in the coming days. | | Day 3 | Rome | Rome Sightseeing : This morning take an excursion to see the classic monuments of Rome. Your Roman guide will take you on a pleasant stroll from the Piazza della Republica to see the Fountain of the Nayads and the Trevi Fountain. Continue on foot to see some historic buildings including La Colonna di Marco Aurelio, the Palazzo di Montecitorio, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. Drive to St. Peter's Square where your guide will fill you in on the history of St. Peter's Basilica. You may then explore it on your own (except when it is closed due to religious celebrations) to admire Michelangelo's "La Pieta" and Bernini's bronze canopy before rejoining the bus and returning to the vicinity of your hotel. In the afternoon see the ancient buildings of Imperial Rome. Drive to Piazza Venezia with its impressive monument dedicated to King Victor Emanuel II and the Unknown Soldier and continue on foot to the famous Piazza del Campidoglio for a fantastic view of the Roman Forum. Drive past the Circus Maximus and the Pyramid of Caius Cestius before visiting the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. Drive to the imposing Colosseum where your tour will end. (BB) | | Day 4 | Rome | Rome at Leisure : Today you have a full day at leisure to wander on your own through the majestic city. Nowhere more than here will you get a sense of the continuity of Italian civilization. In the streets or in the piazzas, in the gardens and churches, or in front of the palaces, the visitor will understand why Rome has always considered itself a capital, eternally renewing herself and finding strength in her rich past. If you would like to enhance your stay, you may take an optional tour to the Vatican - you may reserve your tour through your hotel or by calling our office number, which will be supplied. Tour the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, where an expert guide will discuss the history and beauty of the Museum and where you will see Michelangelo's "Creation" and the famous "Last Judgment". (BB) | | Day 5 | Rome | Further Exploring : You have another full day to choose what you would like to see and do. You will have an opportunity to talk about places to go during your hospitality session on the day of arrival in Rome. If you wish, you may like to take a day tour to Naples and Pompeii. Stop at the Abbey of Montecassino, noted for its famous battle during the Second World War. In Naples take a drive around to see the most important places and get great views of the city. Then cross the fertile valley of Mount Vesuvius to Pompeii. Visit the excavations on foot with a local guide on an archaeological journey through the ancient, fascinating city where you can picture the everyday life of the Imperial Age. You may prefer to visit Orvieto and Assisi. Leaving Rome you will reach Orvieto, where you will admire the magnificent Gothic 14th century cathedral. Drive through some of Italy's best known wine regions, stopping to taste local vintages and other typical Umbrian and Tuscan products. On reaching Assisi take a guided stroll through the lanes of this historic town. See the Church of St. Claire, St. Francis' birthplace, his childhood home and, most importantly, visit St. Francis' Basilica, with its magnificent frescoes painted between the 12th and 14th centuries. (BB) | | Day 6 | Depart Rome | Depart Rome : Today your driver will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Rome Airport in ample time for you to check in for your return flight to the USA. You will have time to do some duty free shopping before boarding your flight. (BB) |
